Botox

Wrinkle Reduction

Botox® is approved by the FDA as a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles and frown lines. It has been used to treat neurological disorders for over 30 years. Every time you smile, laugh, or frown, the contractions of the delicate underlying facial muscles form wrinkles. Facial wrinkles give a person an angry, tired, or sad appearance - even when they are not experiencing that emotion. Botox blocks impulses from the nerves to the tiny facial muscles causing the wrinkles. The muscles relax and the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled, while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.

The Treatment
Cosmetic denervation with Botox is a simple and safe procedure. Using a tiny micro-needle, a very small amount of Botox is injected, precisely, into several locations on the face. Because the needle is so fine, the associated discomfort is minimal, similar to a bug bite.

After the treatment
The procedure is done in a few minutes and you may immediately resume your normal activities. If there is some slight bruising, it may be covered with make-up. If dynamic wrinkles make you look older than you are, cosmetic denervation can smooth these out and give you a more youthful and pleasant appearance. However, this procedure cannot improve wrinkles due to aging and sun-damaged skin.

Perspiration Management

Hyperhidrosis is excessive perspiration (sweating) or sweating beyond what is necessary to maintain normal body temperature. Botox™, when injected into areas of the skin that produce excess sweat, effectively reduces sweat production for many months. Botox™ injections to the sweat-producing areas of the armpits can frequently provide relief for as long as 6 months. Botox™ injections are also an effective remedy for palmar hyperhidrosis (sweating of the palms of the hands) and relief may last many months. Although Botox™ is approved by the Federal Drug Administration in the United States for many medical uses, it is not yet approved for the treatment of excess perspiration. Physicians may use it to treat hyperhidrosis, but it is considered an "off-label" indication.
