Dermal fillers are fast becoming one of our most popular treatments, giving instant results and achieving a fresher, younger, smoother look without having to resort to surgery.
These products have a wide range of uses, from relaxing facial muscles to removing frown lines, smoothing wrinkles and enhancing lips to contouring your chin and cheeks. Some of our most popular products include collagen, and Restylane and Perlane.
Collagen Replacement Therapy helps to reduce wrinkles and other fine lines on your faces or to enhance the size or shape of your lips. The new generation of collagen, Cosmoplast and Cosmoderm do not require a skin test. Collagen is injected into the areas being treated to replace your natural collagen - a protein that supports the skin, giving it its youthful tone and suppleness. Collagen lasts about three to six months and is best used on the lower face and lips.
RestylaneTM
What is Restylane TM?
RestylaneTM is a safe, temporary, non-animal form of hyaluronic acid gel, a naturally occurring substance that binds water to cells. RestylaneTM is injected to fill out creases and lines. The new hyaluronic acid based substances such as PerlaneTM and RestylaneTM have been widely and effectively used in Canada and Europe. More than 27 million patients all over the world have been treated with various hyaluronic acid based products over the years. PerlaneTM & Restylaner are extremely safe. More than five hundred thousand men and women in all age groups around the world have been successfully treated with PerlaneTM & RestylaneTM since 1996. Studies show that the vast majority of them were so happy with their results they would be willing to have the treatment again.
Are there any Side Effects?
Restylane has minimal side effects. The most common is slight bruising, which is seen in about 20% of patients. Less common problems would include allergies, but this is very rare. Some patients experience an infection or a cold sore due to the injection of the needle. Additionally, there maybe a little swelling after the needle is injected, and resolves within a day or two.
What are the Differences between Restylane and Collagen?
Unlike collagen (which lasts 3-6 months), the benefits of PerlaneTM & RestylaneTM treatment should be visible for 6-12 months, depending on the location of the treatment and the nature of your skin. For example, highly mobile areas like the lips tend to require at least a touch-up treatment after about 6 months. Areas where there is less movement may only require additional treatment after 12 months. Experience has shown that smaller amounts of PerlaneTM & RestylaneTM are often needed for maintenance than for the initial correction. Restylane is a smooth, clear gel and "flows" when it is injected and goes in very evenly.
What is the difference between PerlaneTM or RestylaneTM and BOTOX®?
BOTOX® relaxes the muscles which cause many facial lines and unwanted facial expressions. Fillers like PerlaneTM and RestylaneTM (Restylane and Perlane is essentially the same product; Perlane is simply more concentrated), collagen (Cosmoplast and Cosmoderm), ArtecollTM and other products fill creases, lips, cheekbones, and also defects like acne scars. Sometimes BOTOX® is used in combination with PerlaneTM and RestylaneTM when treating certain areas where permanent deep lines have resulted from overactivity of the muscles, for example some frown lines on the lower forehead or wrinkles around the lips.
Are Restylane and Perlane FDA approved?
The FDA approved PerlaneTM and RestylaneTM for use in the United States on Friday, December 12, 2003.
