Facial Sculpturing

The underlying bone structure and soft tissue of your face may be modified to enhance your facial definition. Implants may be placed to augment underdeveloped structures like the cheekbones or chin. Fat may be removed to de-emphasize areas of excess. These procedures may be done separately or together to improve the balance of your facial features.

Mentoplasty: Chin Augmentation
A mentoplasty can bring a receding or weak chin into better harmony with other facial features and create a more pleasing balance. Because mentoplasty can improve the results of a rhinoplasty or facelift, it often is done in conjunction with these procedures. In this technique, the incision is made either inside the mouth or externally, under the chin. A prosthesis, sized exactly to fit the patient, is placed in a pocket above the chin bone and beneath the muscles.

The Procedure
A small incision under your chin. The implant is slipped in and secured it with a few stitches. The procedure may be done in the office or the hospital with local anesthesia and sedation. The procedure takes between one and one and a half hours. Often, at the same time of this procedure the incision is used to gain access to the tissue under the chin to remove by direct excision or liposuction. Combined, these procedures greatly enhance the definition of the jaw line.

After The Procedure
Afterwards a small bandage is placed over the chin, and removed four days later. The day of surgery, you can return home, and normal activities can be resumed a week later. (Avoid strenuous exercise for three weeks and contact sports for six weeks.) Chin implants have a good record for safety and patient satisfaction. Any pain is minimal and can be kept at bay with medication. You may have some trouble chewing at first so soft foods will be your staples for a week. After several weeks, you won't be able to feel the implant at all because it assumes the consistency and feel of your own tissue.

Malar Implants: Cheekbone Enhancement
Traditionally, strong cheekbones have been considered signs of beauty because they add to the definition of the face and help improve facial harmony. In addition, malar implants may give a more youthful appearance to the face and can enhance the results of a facelift.

The Procedure
The implant is made of medical-grade plastic in a roughly triangular shape. The incisions are done through the mouth, the implants are surgically introduced and positioned over the cheekbones, and stitched in place. Six days later, the stitches are removed. This procedure can be performed under local anesthesia. This procedure may be done alone or in conjunction with excision of fat from the cheeks.

After The Procedure
The aftermath is a swollen face and difficulty chewing. You may feel some tightness or numbness around your cheeks for a few weeks. Bruising is uncommon. Swelling subsides gradually, of course, and your new look develops over a period of months. The difference is subtle, so don't be surprised if friends don't notice a change. No one looks as you as closely as you do!

Liposuction of the face
Some patients have small-localized areas of fat around the face. This excess fat may blunt the definition of the jaw line or give the cheeks a very full look. The fat in the cheeks may be excised through an incision in the mouth. The fat under the neck may be excised with an incision under the chin.

The Procedure
Doing sub mental lipectomy to remove excess fat under the chin, the Doctor makes a short incision in the crease below your chin and removes excess fat and tightens the muscles. He also removes loose or excess skin on the upper part of your neck, then closes the incision and applies a small bandage. It's an hour-long procedure done under local anesthesia. If liposuction is performed, a suction device used to remove excess fat in the cheeks and chin area. This is often combined with a face lift or chin augmentation.

After The Procedure
Cultura applies a turban-like dressing, and then removes stitches and bandages four days later. You will go home the same day. Immediately, you'll see a more youthful, tighter jaw line. Jowls and double chins disappear. After five days, you can return to work. Don't resume strenuous activities until about 10 days postop. Any swelling will subside over several months, gradually revealing your new look.
