Nasal Surgery / Rhinoplasty

Of all plastic surgery procedures, nose enhancement, or rhinoplasty, is among the most common. Every year thousands of people choose to change the shape or size of their nose. Cosmetic nasal surgery, makes improvements in the appearance of the nose, which can have a tremendous impact on how you feel about yourself. Common desires are to make the nose straighter, or remove a large hump. Sometimes the tip of the nose is bulbous and poorly defined. Whether your nose is crooked from a traumatic injury, or less defined than you would like, rhinoplasty may be able to enhance the balance between your nose and your face. Nasal surgery can also correct birth defects or breathing problems. Teens are best treated after their growth spurt, around age 14 for girls and 15 to 16 for boys.

The Procedure
The surgery is performed in the hospital, usually under general anesthesia. Depending on the complexity of the surgery, it may take between two and four hours. Small incisions may be hidden underneath the nose or hidden entirely inside the nose. The appearance of the nose is improved by altering the cartilage, bone, or soft tissue underneath the skin. If nasal breathing is a problem, this may also be improved during the surgery. The surgery is done on an outpatient basis.

After Surgery
Most patients spend the first 24 hours in bed with their head elevated on a pillow. Swelling and bruising around the eyes is common for the first few days but can be reduced with cold compresses. Within one or two weeks all dressings, splints, and sutures are removed and the "full" feeling subsides. Most patients avoid work or social situations during the first week of recovery and strenuous activity must be limited for the first few weeks. Cost can come to $4,000 to $5,000 depending on the extent of the surgery; results can last indefinitely.

As with any medical procedure, there are certain risks, which should be discussed with a qualified physician.

Cultura accepts cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, and American Express. For your convenience, financing is also available.

Questions and Answers:
- Will it hurt?
- How long will I need to take off for work?
- What if I want to improve my nose, but I want to avoid an, 'operated', look?
- How much does it cost?
- Will insurance pay for my rhinoplasty?

Will it hurt?
Not really. The procedure is done under either general or twilight anesthesia, meaning you won't feel anything. Afterwards you can expect your nose to be sore for a week or two but not really painful.

How long will I need to take off for work?
Not long. Depending on what type of anesthesia you have you will need between 2-4 days off. If your nasal bones are modified you may have bruising for 10-14 days and will wear a protective splint for one week. You will need to avoid heavy exercising for about 2 weeks.

What if I want to improve my nose, but I want to avoid an, 'operated', look?
Well you are like most people considering nasal surgery today. There was a time when the goals were to make every nose look like the 'in vogue' nose of the day…every nose was made smaller with a slight upturn.
Contemporary goals have evolved. Rhinoplasty should be an elegant procedure, which makes refinements in the nasal appearance. The strengths are preserved and the features in question are modified to bring harmony to the nose and thus the entire face. The result is a natural nose, which complements the face

How much does it cost?
If your nasal deformity was the result of trauma or if you have difficulty breathing through your nose, portions of your surgery may be covered by your insurance. The surgical fee is usually between 5,000 and 6,000 dollars. Financing plans are available.

Will insurance pay for my rhinoplasty?
Insurance plans usually do not cover purely cosmetic procedures. If you have difficulty breathing through your nose or have a deformity as the result of an injury, your insurance may cover a portion of the cost.
