Breast Augmentation

Breast implants are used for the treatment of a variety of breast size and shape concerns.

Underdevelopment of the breasts mass and tissue, known as developmental breast hypoplasia in clients, is a common indication for breast augmentation. Breast deflation post pregnancy or postpartum gland-related hypomastia, substantial weight loss, or simply natural aging can be improved and corrected via breast augmentation surgery. Certain breast asymmetries and shape alterations can also be perfected through breast augmentation procedures.

The breast augmentation approach will be tailored for every degree--shape and size and for every client’s need to be properly addressed.

Preparing for Breast Augmentation

You will have a comprehensive initial visit in our office in Washington DC approximately two-to-three weeks before your breast augmentation surgery. Prescriptions for postoperative medications are provided, and the pre-and-postoperative instructions are clearly communicated. All questions that exist will be answered during this visit.

Appropriate sizing metrics will take place at this time. Any blood-thinning medication (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) should be avoided for two weeks leading up to your breast augmentation surgery. Standard blood work for pre-operative testing is drawn, and all breast imaging photos are. Background information such as age and past medical history are obtained as well.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

At Cultura’s surgical facility located on Wisconsin Avenue in Washington DC, breast augmentation surgeries are performed as an outpatient procedure. After preoperative marking, the procedure is performed under general anesthesia, administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. The breast augmentation procedure duration is approximately 1.5 - 2 hours.

Recovery from Breast Surgery

Recovery starts in our private recovery room with our licensed nursing team, and will be thoroughly discharged home with a relative or friend when you are fully awake and comfortable. This is approximately one to two hours after the surgery is complete. Cultura recommends returning to work after a week or so, although with less physically demanding businesses, many clients and patients are able to return as soon as 4 to 5 days post-breast augmentation surgery.

During the first full week, patients will wear a post-surgical bra compression provided by our practice. A compressive garment may also be required and will be provided if necessary. You will be instructed on how to perform implant displacement exercises at your follow-up visit a week after breast augmentation surgery. After a week, the post-surgical bra can be replaced by a standard workout or sports bra. Traditional bras and bathing suits may be worn after approximately two weeks. Breasts may appear stiff and swollen for the first seven days or more, generally mitigating in firmness by two weeks, with shape and size settling into final position by three months.
